Calaloo (Leaf Amaranth)


Known in the Caribbean as Calaloo, this species is related to Amaranthus tricolor (Chinese

spinach) found in some markets in Hawai'i.  Easy to grow, delicious, and very nutritious cooking green.  


A great species to let set seed and naturalize in your growing area,

weeding where unwanted and letting grow where desired - as is done in milpa systems.  


Hot weather tolerant - a C4 plant. This particular variety came to Hawaii from   Surinam via Florida.  Plant thickly and harvest young.


Sow: Can be direct sown or transplanted.
