Golden Daisy Bush
Euryops pectinatus
Who doesn’t like a sweet little yellow daisy? Native to South Africa, the Golden Daisy is a perennial low bush perfect for a single plant in your garden or container, clustered in a flower garden, or planted as a long single row lining a path. My bushes are about 10 years old and look lovely (see photos). I love to use it in cut flower arrangements, and in lei po’o.
On my farm, the Golden Daisy blooms all year round, sometimes more profusely than other times but it always looks lovely. It is very hardy and once established is drought tolerant. Every few years I cut it all the way back and let it come out again. It also is perfect for those fairy daisy chains children can wear as a lei.
The flower attracts all kinds of pollinators including bees and butterflies. It also does well in containers, and looks sweet with a few other mixed flower varieties, particularly ones that can spill over the side and hang like an alyssum. It looks amazing paired with the color purple and has gained the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit.
Germination Tips: Plant 5-8 seeds at a time in a small community pot and let them germinate. They should be about 1.5 inches before either transplanting into garden soil or into containers. It can take up to 30 days to germinate this seed so you must be patient, it will be worth it.
You can speed germination by soaking the seeds overnight first water then plant the next day.
Plant in full sun at least 3 feet apart.
Wind and drought tolerant.
There are no known diseases or plant pests.
Only a few of the plants will produce seed. Most do not.
